About BATS Theatre Company Inc.
BATS Theatre Company Inc. has a rich history rooted in Buderim’s vibrant arts scene. Our journey began in 1924 with the opening of the new and improved School of Arts in Buderim and the establishment of the Buderim Philharmonic Society. However, records of our activities start to surface in the early 1940s.
By the 1950s and 60s, revues had become a popular form of entertainment, as evidenced by programs preserved in our scrapbook. During these decades, we were officially known as the Buderim Amateur Theatrical Society, affectionately abbreviated to B.A.T.S. In 1989, when the group became incorporated, members strongly supported keeping “BATS” as part of the name, leading to our current title: BATS Theatre Company Inc.
A Community for Theatre Enthusiasts
As one of the Sunshine Coast’s largest theatre groups, BATS fosters a warm and inclusive environment for all theatre lovers—whether you want to be actively involved in productions or simply enjoy the camaraderie as a social member.
Active members can dive into endless opportunities, from performing on stage to directing, managing backstage operations, or contributing through costumes, makeup, lighting, set design, or construction. Front-of-house and bar roles also offer a chance to represent our theatre to the public. You can take on as much or as little as you wish!
Our diverse lineup of productions includes musicals, dramas, comedies, and pantomimes—ensuring something for everyone to enjoy.
Social and Community Events
Social members are equally valued and can participate in our community through picnics, trivia nights, breakfasts, and informal gatherings. After each performance, audiences are welcome to mingle with cast members at the bar, creating a truly inclusive and interactive theatre experience. Look out for our committee members, identifiable by their badges, who are always happy to answer questions or hear your feedback.
